Sorry for my absence, but...

... I'm a soon-to-be business woman!Well, folks! It seems my time as an unemployed baking hobbyist and part-time blogger is almost over! Soon I'll be a very proud co-owner of my dream bakery! If you haven't been following along, my mom and I are currently in the process of filing paperwork, hiring painters and contractors, buying equipment, writing recipes, etc. It's so much fun! We've already got a location and a name. Flour Child Bakery will be located at

1716 Pleasure House Road, Suite 104
Virginia Beach, VA 23455

We're shooting to open in late September or early October. I'm doing my best to document our journey on my other blog, flourchildbakery.blogspot.com. We're also on Facebook, facebook.com/flourchildbakery!

I haven't forgotten about this blog, though! I have two recipes ready to be blogged. Whole Wheat Sticky Buns are coming up first. Then, Brooklyn Blackout Cake is next! I've just been soooo busy lately, I hope everyone can understand.

OH YEAH!! Josh and I are going to NYC next week! We'll be there from August 12-15. Where should we go, and what should we do??????? :D :D :D

Until next time,
Cassie <3

I live right across the river from NYC there is tons of stuff to do! Take a rowboat ride at the Loeb Boathouse restaurant located inside Central Park and there's a zoo in the park too. Of course visit the bakeries such as Magnolia Bakery located in Greenwich Village which has been featured on Sex in the City. Have fun!

I'm so happy for you! As someone mentioned before...you're living a dream, your dream and my dream too!

Me and my mom are very interested in doing the same thing you're doing now....but since I'm an interpreter and translator....and just received my diploma.....and have a great job, I'll be saving money to invest in that same dream.

Good luck with everything, hope everything turns out perfect for you!

Congratulations! Things to in NYC....so many to choose from! Check out the Museum of Modern Art...they have a great cafeteria there (a little pricey for cafeteria food, but it's delicious!). There's a tiny, tiny, tiny little Italian place my Hubby and I went to lunch one day while waiting to check into our hotel. The food was amazing! It's called Osteria Serafina...http://www.yelp.com/biz/osteria-serafina-new-york. I've heard the Adams Family on Broadway is great. Also, some theaters have a day of the week they offer great tickets for only $25 through a lottery. Hubby and I did this (by accident) a few years back and were able to see Wicked from the front row for $25 a person! Have a great time.

Best of luck with the bakery. I look foward to following your adventure!

How did I not know you were in Virginia Beach? I'll be stopping in on the day you open - we need more cupcakeries here in town! And you'll be close to my house, too! Can't wait!

Congratulations and I love the name!!!!

You must visit Two Little Red Hens on Upper east side for their out of this world red velvet and Brooklyn Blackout cupcakes. I lived in NYC practically all my life and there is just so much to see and do but a visit would not be complete without checking out Central Park/the zoo, the High Line (new elevated park downtown), South Street Seaport, FAO Schwarz (toy store), St Marks Place and MOMA! Enjoy!

Go to Peanut Butter & Co. in the Village. Cute little cafe that serves all things PEANUT BUTTER! There is also a limited numbers of menu items that don't have peanut butter on/in them.

Congrats on the bakery! What an exciting adventure! I live in NYC near Little Italy and Chinatown. There used to be a cupcake tour in the Lower East Side, but when I did a quick search just now I couldn't find it. The best article I found was from the Chicago tribune - strange. Here is the link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/travel/chi-cupcakes-travel-webaug13,0,1885870.story.
Have a great trip.

When I was there last summer, we went to the half-price ticket booths to see a broadway show! We saw Avenue Q for half price, it was hilarious and it added so much to the trip!

Hope you have a blast!

I've seen a lot of the shows on Broadway. If you're interested in any particular one feel free to ask me about it.

Central Park is awesome and one of my fave spots here. Just walking around there is amazing.

If you crave burgers the wait at Shake Shack is totally worth it (they have frozen custard too)

I find Magnolia to be very over rated. The frosting tastes like a stick of butter to me. But I know it's a very popular spot so maybe check it out anyway.

I think the best bakery I've found so far is called Sweet Revenge. By far some of the best I've had yet. They have sandwiches and other goodies as well. http://www.yelp.com/biz/sweet-revenge-new-york

I'm married to a New Yorker :)
NYC...so much to do there..so much to see.. I don't know where to tell you to start. If you are short on time, great way to see the entire city is the double decker busses.. You can get on /off wherever you want.

I braved the subway for the first time and the bus in a foreign city and country to get there and it was worth every ounce of angst.

Holey moley, Virginia Beach!!! My son and his wife just moved there a year ago and are passing papers on their first house next week! I can't wait to tell them where to find you and for me, when I go to visit I'm heading right your way.

If you need a good vet I can highly recommend my son :)

Congratulations and hope to see you in the future.

YAY congrats for you!! This is very exciting! :) Good job you!

I highly recommend seeing a Broadway show...you can't NOT see one when you're in the musical theatre capital of the US!! If you don't mind something more serious yet also darkly funny and very moving -- see Next to Normal!! A Little Night Music also has two Broadway legends currently in it (Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch) so that'd be way worth seeing! American Idiot is also apparently very very good, based on Green Day music!!

In the Heights and Billy Elliot are also recommended...If you want to see something more well known, there's still Wicked and Lion King and Phantom are still there too!!

I am so happy for you and your Mom. You are going to blow away the other Virginia Beach bakeries. I wish you the best. JE

Thursday 8/12 Broadway in the Park at Bryant Park where the casts from several Broadway shows come out and sing a few songs from their shows for free at lunchtime. So much fun! Then there are the touristy things to do - Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building. If you haven't done these yet, try to get them in if you have time! I also recommend going to the TKTS booth and getting tickets for a show. There are some great ones right now like the Addams Family, Lend Me a Tenor, Promises, Promises and a Little Night Music and the TKTS prices are great. If you're opening a bakery (Congrats BTW!) maybe you could find out where some bakeries are and do some delicious research!

How exciting, Cassie! Way to go! I can't wait to hear about your bakery goings on, and that time in NYC will be spectacular. As if you don't already know, a Broadway show is a MUST! I went to NYC in December 2008 and loved it. Have fun, and be sure to also visit all the fresh gourmet markets. Mmm!
