WHAT A DAY!

Usually I don't like to make posts about things in my life that don't pertain to baking or food. I don't want to clog up my blog with entries about what happened this week on Nurse Jackie or about conversations Josh and I have about how the only thing certain is uncertainty. Usually, my life is pretty blasé. However, today is an unsual day. (I say "is" because the only thing I'm superstitious about is not tearing off the date on my page-a-day calendar until I've fallen asleep and woken up the next day. Today is today until it's tomorrow.)

Let's go back to this morning. I left for work in a hurry and forgot to grab my Oikos Greek yogurt (with honey on the bottom, yum). When I got to work, not only did I have no breakfast, the air conditioner was broken! It's Virginia! It's hot. It's humid. It's NOT cupcake-friendly weather. So we sold our cupcakes BOGO all day because customers had to wait while their cupcakes were being frosted-to-order. One positive thing so far, I got off work early which gave me plenty of time to come home and bake for "wing night." Back to the not-so-positives, on my way home, I got stuck at the drawbridge. As if that isn't bad enough already, when I went to turn my car back on, THE BATTERY WAS FREAKIN DEAD AS A DOORNAIL! I was sitting in the middle of the highway in my mom's tiny Cabrio (she was getting my car inspected for me, thanks momma!) waiting desperately for someone to stop and help. A very nice man driving a huge F-350 stopped, but he couldn't jump me because he couldn't turn his monster of a truck around on the highway. Finally, almost 10 minutes later, while cars are ZOOMING past me at 50+ mph, a guy from the department of transportation pulled up and pushed my dead car across the bridge so I could pull off of the highway. Then the nice man with the F-350 turned his truck around and gave me a jump. Both the VDOT guy and the F-350 guy were so nice! Thank goodness for both of them! So finally, I got back on the road and got home safely. Then, I went to use the bathroom and ALMOST dropped my phone in the toilet. That would've seriously been the straw that broke the camel's back...

I'd like to end this dreadful post on a positive note. I won Iron Cupcake:Earth last month, and one of the prizes is the book Hello, Cupcake! It came in the mail today, and I already have a copy of it. SO... I'm giving this one away! I haven't thought of what kind of contest I'm going to have. If you have any ideas or suggestions that would be nice. Otherwise, scroll down to where it says "Post A Comment" and tell me how sorry you are that my day sucked so bad! ;P

Sad to hear about the disappointing day, but there is still a lot of time for it to turn around! I'll share with you a goofy story of my day to cheer you up. A few weeks ago a friend of my husband invited me to a cooking course that neither she nor I knew much about. I called the girl yesterday to secure a ride to the city, as I have no idea where this place is, and we kind of got a plan together. Kind of. Being an anxious person needing every detail, I called her again this morning 7x no answer. At the bus stop on my way to meet her, she finally returns the call and tells me that my freaking out, furiously fast housecleaning for guests tonight, exercise on the run, & missed lunch, have been all in vain because the course isn't until tomorrow (sigh).

i'm sorry your day sucked! i'm familiar with VA and i know you don't wanna be stuck on no darn drawbridge! how about just randomly selecting a comment for the winner?

! I remember when my battery died out on me the moment I had to get to work in a hurry (turns out it was a faulty battery and I got a new one installed for free), but all you can think of is Murphy's law. Glad to hear you got off the bridge and home safely.

So sorry you had a horrible day! I had one of the worst days ever yesterday, but it turned into a fairly decent evening. Here's hoping that you have a much better evening and a good night's rest before starting over again tomorrow!

Ugh, I'm sorry about your battery dying, especially on the bridge! Thank goodness for nice people, though. :-)

Also, glad you didn't drop your phone in the toilet! ;-) I dropped mine down the stairs once...was so sure it would shatter, but fortunately it didn't.

Guess I haven't been paying too much attention, because I didn't even realize you worked at a cupcake shop... Duh...

Regardless, I'm definitely sorry about your crappy day - we too just got stuck at a drawbridge in Newark, NJ yesterday, and it's a PIA!

And be happy you didn't drop your phone in the toilet - sadly, I have done that before... I almost flushed it, because I sure as heck wasn't going to put it to my face again! But, as luck would have it I was up for a new one anyway! Everything happens for a reason, I guess.

Have some wing night fun and deliciousness!!

"tell me how sorry you are that my day sucked so bad" haha that's the funniest thing I've heard all day! So sorry about your day ;)

To be honest, I hate entering contests to win something! If I ever decide to do a give-away I would just say: "write down your email in the comment section" No explaining why you want it so badly, no trying to come up with something 'fun' to say, no nothing. And also available to non-US residents haha! Luckily I can enter US-only give-aways, cuz I can write down my dad's address.

Ps. I love Oikos honey greek yogurt :D

I HATE days like this! It seems to happen to me at least once a month and I just want to kill everyone. I hope the remainder of today is much better for you! Also, congrats on winning Iron Cupcake! We just started a chapter in Utah but I don't feel anywhere near good enough to participate yet. :)

Ohhhh sad face :( I hate days like that. Usually there's lots of swearing involved :P That's one good thing about where I live now - I commute easily by bus. I guess being stuck on a drawbridge in a bus would actually be a much less pleasant experience, but the chances of a bus breaking down are less...right? Uh oh, haha. But it's okay! Things always get better after days like this (or at least seem so by comparison ;) )

that is my worst nightmare...breaking down some place. i have that book as well, i am actually not a fan of it. the pictures are cool but i don't like some of the techiques she suggests

Eek! I second that emotion. I DID drop my phone in the toilet this morning! Is it a full moon? Friday the 13th??

Here's hoping your day takes a turn for the better!

I not only dropped my phone in the toilet but flushed it and had to call a plumber! Talk about feeling stupid. I walked into my then 16 year old son's room and he was sitting with a bunch of his buds and I told him what happened (before calling the plumber) wanting some sympathy, but you can imagine what I got from a room full of 16 year old boys instead!! :)
It makes me laugh now and it was a pink phone to boot! I am glad you made it safely out of a sticky situation in all sense of the word! I agree just randomly select someone... how cool would that be!

Look at the bright side, there was a couple nice men that were able to help you out on what could have been a crappy day.

I'm not so sure what to suggest as far as a contest goes, but I sure would love to have a copy of the Hello Cupcake book. :)

Good Luck!

I AM, SO sorry, cassie! i have days like that alllll of the time.
i am very happy that there was a couple of good men around, that theres still decent people that are willing to help out someone else.
i wouldnt compare my day with yours, but mine hasnt been so great either. i havent been able to go on vacation for the past three summers. there was different reasons everytime! when i was in highshcool i had to be around for band camp. then after that my gramma that lives with me needed someone to watch after her [plus our dogs]. my familys been on two vacations already this summer! this next week i was supposed drive my mom and brother with me and we were gonna see the bear sand dunes and go to michigan adventures water park. today i took my gramma to the doctor, just the normal monthy appointment to make sure everythings in check [shes 97!]. we ended up finding out she has an infection! and shes going to have to go get an ultrasound. there was some more bad news. so i get to sit around and worry about it.
plus its likely were not going to go on that vacation anymore.

hm, im not sure about the contest. i already have hello cupcake myself. a gift for my last birthday.
maybe tell about the best cupcake youve ever made or ate.

Hey, don't worry about a bad day. Following the Rule of Balance of the Almighty Universe (yeah, I just made that up) tomorrow will be amazing! And if it isn't, the balance will be lost and the earth will explode!
See, everything is gonna be fine ^^

Yikes, you definitely had a stressful day! I bet you're glad it's almost over!

Sorry about the day, but I've realized that bad days are what cupcakes were invented for. =)

Well, at least there was a fun end to your crap day: wing night! So nice of you to share the cookbook.

Anonymous said...

I think you should have some sort of bake off for the book :) - maybe a themed competition? Best summer decorated cupcake? Or something like that.

Sorry you had such a crappy day :(

Sandi Oh said...

OMG, your so cute, you make me laugh. What's a bad day if you have your humor?!

Anonymous said...

Sorry you had such a day. I'm also glad you didn't tell us what happened on Nurse Jackie. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. ;)
How about you ask for suggestions on what to bake next and award the book to the commenter whose item you make.

Xiaolu said...

Well if it makes you feel better, I've dropped my phone once into a bowl of kimchi soup and twice into the toilet! Hope tomorrow's extra nice to balance today out =D.

That seriously sucks. I'm sorry you had such a bad day. At least you met two nice people in the process.

Hahaha... that sounds like quite the day!

You should do something big and epic for the Hello Cupcake! giveaway. Make us work for it. :) I mean... so far 30 people have commented on your bad day... I think we're up for a real challenge. Baking, perhaps?

I was hoping that the smores cupcakes would win. Martha's website had them once but I find the directions difficult to understand. Yours are much clearer.
Tomorrow will be better, tomorrow is always better.

That sounds like a really bad day. Isn't it nice it is now a distant memory?
I had a bad day which started with me driving off from the gas station with the gas nozzle still in the car...

I am so sorry you had such a crappy day! But I'm glad that those two guys were able to help you out, and maybe brighten your otherwise miserable day, even by a little bit! It always feels like negative things just get worse and worse until you finally reach a breaking point, so be thankful that things never reeeally got that bad! :) And of course you won the Iron Cupcake competition! Big woo hoos!! Don't ever worry about ranting on your blog, we love reading your posts no matter what the topic. Hope you have a great day! xxx

Why is it that so many people bring their cell phones into the bathroom? I hear about toilet dropping all the time :)

Sorry to hear about your day. Sometimes that just happens, bu the good thing is that the next day is usually a whole lot better.

Sorry to hear about your day, my family lives in VA and I live in TN so I know all about that heat!!! But hey at least you have something to be happy about, congratulations on the winning! How exciting!

My friend has the HELLO CUPCAKE book and I am always asking to borrow it from her!! I really want that cookbook!!!

If you ever do drop your phone in water, take the battery out and put the whole thing in a a container of rice(uncooked of course) for 2-3 days and it will be as good as new!

Lynnetta said...

Sounds like your day had its positives. You got to leave work early. You probably got to eat a cupcake for breakfast (who doesn't like excueses for that!) and you met some friendly gentlemen on the highway proving that yes, there are still nice people out there.

Hope it gets better!

Karen said...

Your day really sucked, but lucky for you people stopped to help you. That's a bright spot all on it's own. I hope you don't have another bad day for quite awhile! :)

What do you mean by bogo?

It's sad to hear about the battery. I had to go and rescue my housemate one night when her car died. We came to an arrangement for the next day where she would frop me at work early then take my car only to discover the next morning that my car wouldn't start either!

*squishie hugs*

Have cake with a cute boy, it will make you feel better

That was a shitty day to say the least--but focus on the bright side--you are a talented adorable cupcake maker who just won ICC and have lots of great admirers because of your great personality and style my dear! I still remember you in those you-tube videos and loved your down home what you see is what you get attitude!! love it!! happier days ahead! And, let's pray for yogurt, ac working, car batteries not dead and of course draw bridges not opening!! Happy cupcakes!

I know it doesn't quite compare, but I just dropped my entire bowl of pie crust that I made by hand (no cuisinart) on the floor! Ugh! And it made me think of this post. Sorry you had such a crumby day!

Super delayed comment - but sounds like such an awful day! Hopefully everything since then has gone much much more smoothly!
